VILJANDI UNITED TECH SCHOOL CAMPUS & NEW TEACHING FACILITY COMPETITION WINNER: `SYMBIOSIS` (2009-)
`Campus as a teaching tool`. 18 500m². 5,6 ha. Integrating the buildings and grounds of an historic manor house, our scheme restores the delapidated heritage-protected farm quadrangle, frames it as the central element between the 2 new facilities, functionally connects the buildings via the `interior street`, and visually harmonizes them with wood-shingled angled volumes inspired by the existing pitched roofs and the gently rising granite boulder ramp at the south face of the quadrangle. Engineering solutions for low energy consumption and low maintenance costs. Meant for 800 students, this facility promises to revitalize an area of central area of Estonia, which sorely needs it.
