’PAVILION HOUSE 2’, PIRITA, TALLINN, 2004 (UNREALIZED DESIGN PROPOSAL), AREA: 350 m2
If the clients` preferences are conservative, perthaps historicist....what kind of house might then be center-set in a pristine Japanese garden, with a 1910-designed turretted Germanic mansion and a red painted guesthouse within 30 meters? A bi-symmetrical oriental pavilion-like form, topped by a simple hipped roof? Calm and self-assured, equally viewable from all sides. A receding second floor and wide eaves in red-stained wood, with large corner windows? Gives the largish volume lighter proportions. The ground floor walls limestone-clad? Allows for ivies to make the house disappear.
